Hiking ‘The Keweenaw’ – Day 2

July 14 — This day featured two nice hikes in and around the area.  The first was less of a hike – more like a quarter-mile walk – out into Horseshoe Harbor; a little cove in Lake Superior.  For most of the time we had this little bedrock beach to ourselves where we walked around, took photos, and enjoyed the peaceful beauty of this quiet little harbor.

The second place we visited and hiked through on this day was The Estivant Pines – a Michigan Nature Association forest sanctuary.  Located three miles south of Copper Harbor, we drove down more old logging roads to get to this 500-acre stand of old growth Eastern White Pine trees.  We hiked around the two couple-mile loops through this forest, and once again, were happy for the exercise and quiet beauty of the woods.
