Fred may have gotten published…

Chenoa Town Crier

… but I made the front page!  So did he, actually.  In the June 12th edition of the Chenoa Town Crier, the lead story highlighted Chenoa’s annual Alumni Banquet.  Very noteworthy is the fact that this was the 101st annual Alumni Banquet, and it happened to be Fred’s 40th high school reunion.  He was one of the speakers [representing his 40-year class] so his picture appears at the bottom of the page – no real surprise that he’d be featured – but as we looked a bit closer at the article and pictures, there I was, as well!!

Fred made some very nice comments as he reflected on 40 years ago in the gym – playing basketball… eating lunch nearly every day with his buddies… and being terrorized as a freshman by upper classmen in 4th hour P.E. class.  But he lamented that he never attended a high school dance because he was too shy to ask a girl out.  At that point he introduced me and stated, “but if you are just patient, you’ll finally get the girl, and she’ll wear your letter jacket!”  I stood and modeled his Chenoa Redbird letter jacket that he had some 40 years earlier and the crowd went wild!  Okay, they didn’t go that wild, but they laughed and clapped.  It was a terrific evening and Fred’s remarks were very well received.  What a treat it was that both of us made the paper – and we’re not even Chenoa residents!
