June 8 — It’s not The New Yorker, but nonetheless Fred finally got himself published! At the suggestion of several family members and friends, he wrote a very nice story about us and our upcoming two-year road trip adventure. Titled Out There, his story appeared in his hometown paper, the Chenoa Town Crier on May 8.
The article was published just two weeks before his 40th high school class reunion, and in it he harkened back to 40 years ago when he had just finished high school and enlisted in the U.S. Navy in another sort of Out There adventure. He nicely wove then and now stories about ‘casting off the bowlines’ [from the Mark Train quote that, in part, inspired this journey] and daring to dream and discover.

Congratulations on the byline, Fred! Looking forward to more in the future.
Truly a fabulous time for the two of you. Enjoy the adventure and joy in each and every day.
Sending sunshine from Chicago,
Christine
He’s already working on his next musing!
Thanks, Mom! We had a nice weekend with Bruce & the girls, as well as Dave at the game. Will see Dave & Renee at the end of July with the boys. xoxoxo
I loved this post! It was great to see Bruce and David with you at the Tigers’ game. Back in the 50s I was a big fan! I tried to save the newspaper story in Word, but I couldn’t do it. Good thing that you sent me the newspaper. Happy Trails to You as my fellow Buckeye, Roy Rogers, (aka Leonard Slye)would sing.
